What the blood panel tests, and why.
01Ferritiniron storage
Low iron stores are a common hidden cause of shedding, and are easy to miss when only anaemia is checked. If it is low, the fix is usually simple.
02DHTandrogen activity
Higher levels point to more aggressive pattern hair loss. It shapes how medical treatment is approached, and whether a DHT blocker is appropriate.
03ThyroidTSH, T3, T4
A thyroid running too fast or too slow causes all-over shedding that looks like pattern baldness. Treating the thyroid can settle the loss without surgery.
04Testosteronehormonal balance
Read alongside DHT, it shows how hard your hormones are driving the thinning, so treatment is matched to you.
05Vitamin Dfollicle cycling
Low vitamin D affects the growth phase of the hair cycle. It is common in the UK, and treatable once it has been measured.

Month by month
What happens, month by month.
- Month 1
The new hairs fall out at some point in weeks 2 to 4. It is called shock loss and it is normal, but it worries people when nobody has told them it is coming.
- Month 3
New hairs start to push through, fine and soft to begin with.
- Month 6
Growth is usually easy to see by now, and it keeps thickening.
- Month 12
Roughly where the final result shows, with the new hair grown in and blending with the rest.
